Former FBI agent Levinson 'somewhere in southeast Asia': US

Washington, Mar 4: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that former FBI agent Bob Levinson, who disappeared when visiting Iran in 2007, is still alive.

Clinton said in a statement on Thursday that the U.S. citizen, named Bob Levinson, is now being held 'somewhere in southeast Asia'.

"We respectfully request the Iranian government to undertake humanitarian efforts to safely return and reunite Bob with his family. The U.S. would appreciate the Iranian government's efforts in this regard," China's Xinhua news agency quoted Clinton as saying.

Levinson, an American private detective and former FBI agent, disappeared when he was visiting Iran's Kish Island four years ago.

Washington has repetitively asked Tehran to make efforts to find out Levinson's whereabouts and ensure his rapid and safe return to the United States.

Iranian Government has stated that it has no information about the case.
