Army major becomes first woman to be court martialled for corruption
From ANIChandigarh, Mar.4: A woman army major, Dimple Singla, has become the first woman to be court-martialled on charges of corruption.
She has been sentenced to a year's rigorous imprisonment and dismissed from service.
Proceedings were initiated against Singla in 2007.
She was accused of abusing her position as a public servant by accepting Rs. 10,000 from the Defence Counsel in a court martial in which she was the Judge Advocate in November 2004.
Major Singla has the option of appealing to the Army commander or to move the armed forces tribunal.
