Awareness campaign for HIV/AIDS in Manipur
From ANIImphal, Nov.28: A multi-media campaign aimed at spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS was launched in Imphal on Tuesday under the aegis of Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS).
Speaking at the inaugural function MACS project director P.K Jha said that the basic objectives of the campaign is to create awareness among the youth in the age group of 15 to 29 and also to understand the problems being encountered by people living with HIV.
P.K.Jha said that the activities of the AIDS Control Authority of the state are making a difference despite odds.
"Actually, there are a lot of areas here in Manipur which have not been covered because of difficult terrain and poor law and order situation. Still, we are doing a lot in our fight against HIV/AIDS and this multi media campaign is a positive step in this regard. However, our performance has been very good. Though final achievements may not reflect it but in the last few years our performance has been really commendable," said P.K.Jha Project Director, Manipur Aids Control Society (MACS).
State officials and experts expressed concern that remote areas remain marginalized in general campaigns. But they are hopeful that Manipur will soon become a low prevalence state.
"I think that in the next few years we will be able to bring Manipur from high to low prevalence state," said Dr. Pramod Singh, Project Director, Technical, Manipur Aids Control Society (MACS).
Manipur comes in the high prevalence states according to National Aids Control; Organization (NACO).
