Harassed Lucknow husbands demand a National Commission for Men
From ANILucknow, Nov 20: Men, mostly harassed husbands, dressed up as grooms, took to the streets here on Thursday to demand the creation of a National Commission for Men.
The protestors claimed they have been harassed by their 'nagging' wives, and as such there should be a commission to address their grievances.
" We demand the creation of a National Commission for Men so that there should be somebody to listen to the grievances of men," said Dr Subhash Dube, a victimised husband.
Indu Pandey, President of All India Welfare Committee for Husbands said the statistics clearly revealed how Section 498-A of Indian Penal Code meant to protect a woman against harassment by her husband and allied relatives had often been misused.
"If you look at the national crime statistics, Section 498-A of Indian Penal Code has been misused a lot of times. Demands to amend this law have been put forward a lot of times. Therefore, we oppose this law," Pandey added.
