BJP workers celebrate Advani's 83rd birthday
From ANINew Delhi, Nov. 8: BJP workers and supporters wished senior leader Lal Krishna Advani on his 83rd birthday with bouquets, gifts and sweets.
Born on November 8, 1927 in Karachi, Advani has held many important positions both in the BJP and in the Union Government.
BJP President Rajnath Singh wished Advani on his birthday and said that the leader had taken the party to new heights in Indian politics.
"Today is Advaniji's birthday. On this occasion, we all have come to his residence to give him birthday greetings. I pray for his good health so that he continues to be our mentor. There can be no second thoughts on Advani's efforts in taking BJP to new heights in Indian politics," said Singh.
Advani was the deputy prime minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, which was swept out of power in a shock election defeat in 2004.
The BJP has struggled for direction since that defeat and its second rung leaders have failed to forge unity after Advani stepped down as party president in 2005.
