Chidambaram inaugurates NSG Chennai hub
From ANIChennai, July 1: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram inaugurated the second hub of the National Security Guard (NSG) at Nedunkundaram near Chennai, here this morning.
This is the first hub of the elite commando unit in South India. Nearly 250 commandos will be deployed in Chennai unit. On Tuesday he inaugurated the NSG hub in Mumbai.
Speaking on the occasion, Chidambaram said, the NSG hubs would respond quickly and decisively during a crisis.
These hubs would also raise the level of the government's preparedness in facing challenges forced upon the country, at any time, he added.
The Chennai NSG hub, is situated in a 85-acre area, and is the largest commando unit in the country.
Chidambaram also said the UPA Government has achieved the target of setting up of NSG hub by June 30 or July 1 as per the assurance given after the 26/11 attack on Mumbai.
The Home Minister will also inaugurate two other NSG units in Kolkata and Hyderabad today.hidambaram expressed hope that permanent units of the NSG in these cities would be operational by November.
