Mumbai, May 25: Going down memory lane, Bollywood actor Anupam Kher hosted the premiere of his debut film, 'Saaransh' in Mumbai, after its completion of 25 years.

Anupam, who stepped into Bollywood with film 'Saaransh', hosted its premiere at Metro big cinema theatre where the movie was released 25 years ago.

In 1984, the premiere of 'Saaransh' had to be postponed because of riots in Bhiwandi, following which distributors were reluctant to organise one.

So, Anupam planned to host the premiere of his first film even though he earned rave reviews for his performance. He was just 28 when he played the role.

The actor became quite nostalgic during the event.

"The day when this film was released, I was standing outside to know if the audience can recognise me after the movie as I was 28 then and played the role of a 65-year-old man. Everyone passed by without recognising me. I thought of taking revenge and therefore hosted the premiere of this film so that people can now recognise me," he said.

Anupam re-lived this moment with his co-stars from the film Rohini Hattangadi and Soni Razdan and director Mahesh Bhatt who were present at the premiere along with friends including directors Yash Chopra, Rakesh Mehra and Satish Kaushik.

While speaking on the occasion, Director Satish Kaushik said he remembered very well the condition of Anupam Kher and his feelings 25 years back.

"It is a great opportunity to see this movie again with its actors and co- actors. It has been a great journey," said Satish.

In 'Saaransh', Anupam had played the role of a retired school principal who had lost interest in life after his son's death abroad and has to fight to get back his son's ashes. He later fights for his tenant's rights too, taking on powerful politicians.

The film was also India's official entry to the Oscars in 1985 in the best foreign language film category.

The actor, who has acted in almost all genres, will soon be seen in Walt Disney's production 'Zokommon' with child artiste Darsheel Safary, 'Hawai Dada', 'Wake up Sid' and many other untitled projects.
