Eco-friendly varsity brings higher education to remote hilly regions of Kashmir

Bhadarwah ( J and K), May 24: To bring higher education within the reach of people in isolated, remote and hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the University of Jammu has set up an extension of its campus in a picturesque environment at Bhaderwah.

Initially, established in a rented accommodation in 2006, the state-of-the-art campus at Sungli Bhaderwah was dedicated to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir by President Pratibha Patil in May last year.

The mighty range of Himalayas has been famous for its scenic beauty and provides apt environment for studies, meditation and other literary and artistic pursuits.

"This campus is really an eco-friendly campus because we have tulip gardens and orchards surrounding our campus. Gardens have been maintained properly by the university administration," said Anamika Parihar, student at Bhaderwah campus.

During a recent visit to campus a University Grant Commission (UGC) team had observed that in near future it would become an important knowledge hub and cater to the needs of the youth from the adjoining districts of Kathua, Udhampur and even Himachal Pradesh. By Tahir Nadeem Khan
