Dakota Fanning may star in 'Twilight' sequel

Washington, Jan 22: Dakota Fanning is in talks to star in 'New Moon', the upcoming sequel to box office mega hit 'Twilight'.

The 14-year-old star will reportedly play Jane opposite Robert Pattinson and Co. in the film adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer's best-selling series.

"There were no auditions. They just offered it to her outright, and now they're in negotiations. They've been going back and forth," E! Online quoted a source, as saying.

In the series, Jane is a member of Italy's Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers.

A casting notice, which got leaked earlier this month, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face...[and] crimson irises."

And the document read that while fellow Volturi guards Demetri and Felix "are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her."

In fact, already an online petition started by a Twilight fan has asked the studio, Summit Entertainment, to cast Fanning saying she would be "perfect" for the role.

New Moon, to be directed by Chris Weitz, is expected to go on floors in March in the U.S. and Italy, and is slated for a Nov. 20 release.
