Outbreak of disease follow floods in Uttar Pradesh
From ANIDarihath Village (Uttar Pradesh), Sept 17: Floods might have receded, but villagers are faced with a new problem of trying to cope with the disease outbreak, as an aftermath of floods in Uttar Pradesh.
Water borne diseases have started taking a toll of villagers in Darihath village in Gorakhpur region.
The villagers lament negligence on the part of health authorities in the state.
"The people here have been suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. Many of them are being treated at the private hospitals while we took two girls to the government hospital, which was closed. The girls died due to lack of medical aid," said Girija Prasad, a villager.
The health authorities on their part claim to have taken measures like distributing Chlorine tablets to the villagers and also undertaking cleaning of water sources in the village.
"We have cleaned all the hand pumps in the village by putting bleaching powder in them. In more dirty areas, dusting has been done with bleaching powder, to prevent the spread of the disease further," said R.N. Mishra, Chief Medical Officer, Gorakhpur.
Every year floods leave behind them a trail of destruction in the country and epidemic scare emerges as a major problem after the flood waters have receded.
Many lives are lost due to outbreak of diseases after the floods and lack of proper medical facilities makes it difficult for the medical authorities to cope with the diseases.
