Brown set November deadline to save his job
From ANILondon, Aug.28: Britain's Cabinet Ministers have given Prime Minister Gordon Brown time till November to improve Labour's prospects.
According to The Independent, senior ministers believe that it would be a mistake to move against Brown before Labour's annual conference next month, which they warn could descend into "shambles".
"He deserves one last chance to turn it round and we should support him in that. He might be able to do it. If he can't, then we will have to take some big decisions and think through the consequences," the paper quoted one minister, as saying.
Some of his cabinet critics also appear to be ready to accept that Brown should be allowed a final opportunity to revive his fortunes by unveiling an economic plan next month to help people struggling to cope with rising fuel, food and housing costs in the downturn.
Although some ministers have deliberately kept their heads down during the holiday period, the Cabinet is expected to close ranks behind Brown when it holds its first meeting of the new political season on September 8, in the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, Downing Street and Whitehall are working frantically on an "economic plan" for the centerpiece of Brown's attempted fight back next month. This could cover issues like fuel, housing and reforming liquidity schemes.
