UML, NC not to join new Nepal Government

From ANI

Kathmandu, May 13: The Nepali Congress (NC) and the Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) have decided not to join the new government and have also set preconditions for their support to a government led by Maoists in Nepal.

According to Nepalnews, the central committees of the second and third largest political parties in the newly constituted Constituent Assembly (CA) took the decision on Monday after days of deliberation.

UML acting general secretary Amrit Kumar Bohara, answering questions raised by members, said that joining the government is a secondary issue.

The political reports presented by Bohara for endorsement states that the most important task for the party is to engage in making a democratic republican Constitution and to bring peace in Nepal.

The NC has also set conditions for the handing over of the government leadership to the Maoists.

The party asked the Maoists to dissolve its paramilitary structures, surrender or destroy arms, hand over seized property to the rightful owners and to end excesses to win support for the formation of the new government.

The party also called for the dissolution of people's courts and the people's government and an end to the anarchic and violent activities of the Young Communist League (YCL).
