Man guilty of faking antique pots LONDON, May 2 (UPI) -- A former art teacher in Britain has been found guilty of creating fake antique pots and selling them at auction houses.
Jeremy Broadway, 52, who holds a master's degree in ceramics and previously taught at Bryanston School in Dorset, was given a 12-month supervision order under the Mental Health Act after he was found mentally unfit to plead and he was tried in absentia for obtaining money by deception, The Telegraph reported Friday.
Broadway was found to have made counterfeit versions of pots made by Bernard Leach and Lucie Rie and stamped them with fake versions of the seals used by the artists.
He made at least $18,000 selling the fake antiques at auction houses including Christie's and Bonhams, The Telegraph report said.
The pot counterfeiter reportedly claimed to have inherited the items from his father-in-law and told police he believed them to be genuine.
