Punjab, land of 5 rivers - Punjab is the northwest state of India and literally means state of five rivers. The state holds a historical relevance of the 4000-year-old Indus valley civilization. The famous Baisakhi festival is celebrated every year on April 13th. It is a rich agriculture state that has earned the title- “Granary of India”. Punjab is a highly ethnic state that mainly follows the religion of Sikhism. Amritsar is the main tourist attraction; it has the famous golden temple, which is the center of Sikh religion. The well-planned city Chandigarh is the shared capital of both Punjab and Haryana. The other historical site, which is a five-minute walk from the golden temple is the Jallianwala Bagh that commemorates 2000 Indians who were killed by the British in 1919, the massacre was a major landmark in India’s struggle for independence.
