Scarlett Johansson Biography
Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22, 1984 in New York City, New York, U.S. She is a BAFTA Award winning actress. This award was won by Johansson for being the Best Actress in a Leading Role in the 2004 movie, Lost in Translation. She also was nominated for a Golden Globe Award twice: Once for the movie Lost In Translation, then again for the movie Girl With A Pearl Earring. Johansson has both American and Danish citizenship.
While Johansson grew up in a home that had little money, her mother, Melanie Sloan, was still a huge film buff. In fact, it was her mother who enrolled her in theater training school, from which she later went on to graduate from. She began attending this school, the Professional Children's School in Manhattan, in 2002. The fact that her mother enrolled her in this program should come as no surprise though as Melanie Sloan was a producer. Of course, the entertainment business ran throughout her family's blood as her paternal grandfather, Ejner Johansson, was both a screenwriter and a director. One of Johansson's older sisters, Vanessa, is also an actress and her twin brother, Hunter, is an actor as well.
It was not until 1998 that Johansson rose to fame though. This was thanks to her role in the movie, The Horse Whisperer. After this movie, Johansson then went on to gain critical acclaim for some of her other roles, which included Ghost World, Lost in Translation and Girl With A Pearl Earring.
Johansson is now reaching for another dream that she has had for a while now. On May 20, 2008, Johansson's debut record album will be released. On this album she will be singing vocalists and there will also be vocals from David Bowie featured on this album as well.
