Gwen Stefani Biography

Gwen Stefani was born on October 3, 1969 in Fullerton, California, United States. She is a singer/songwriter in the pop, rock, ska-punk, dance, new wave, alternative rock, r&b genres. Gwen Stefani also works as a fashion designer and occasionally works as an actress as well.

 

Throughout her childhood Gwen Stefani was surround my many women who worked as seamstresses.  For this reason, either her or her mother made most of her clothing. Eventually this led to her interest in fashion design.  Most of her fashion designs have been described by the media as being trend setting.  Nevertheless, in 2003 Gwen Stefani debuted her clothing line L.A.M.B.  She then went on to expand this collection with the 2005 Harajuku Lovers line.  Much of her inspiration for these two lines comes from Japanese culture and fashion,

 

Throughout her childhood, Gwen Stefani showed interest in musicals such as The Sound of Music and Evita.  She made a demo tape for her father at one point.  He encouraged not to take music lessons though as he liked her "loopy, unpredictable" voice. Taking his advice, she mad her on stage debut during a talent show at her high school.  Herein she sang "I Have Confidence" from The Sound of Music.  She was dressed in a self-made tweed dress that was inspired by the one that was worn in that film.

 

In 1992 she debuted as the front woman for the rock band No Doubt. Her older brother, Eric, was the band's keyboardist until he moved on to pursue a career in animation on the television show, The Simpsons.  However, it was not until 2004 that she went on to record her first solo album (Love. Angel. Music. Baby.).   She enjoyed international success when this record was released, with sales of over seven million records.
