Carrie Underwood Biography

In Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA on March 10, 1983 Carrie Underwood, who is an American  country pop vocalist, guitarist, pianist and songwriter with the Arista Nashville label was born. She was raised on her parents' farm in rural Checotah, Oklahoma. It was during this time that she performed in the Robbins Memorial Talent Show. During this time she also sang in church, for Old Settler's Day, the Lion's Club and various other local events in Checotah. During two of her summer breaks from college Underwood performed in Northeastern's Downtown Country show in Tahlequah. She also competed in numerous beauty pageants at the college. In fact, she was selected as the Miss NSU runner-up in 2004.

It was not until Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol that she received a contract. Her debut album was certified seven times platinum and was the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. This has made it the best selling album by an American Idol contestant in the United States to date. Plus it is also the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history. From there she has gone on to win three Grammies. She is also the first person to win American Idol and then go on to sweep all three major music awards (the Billboard, American Music and Grammy Award) in just one season. Since this time she has become a multi-platinum selling recording artist. Her second album was also quite successful, selling more than two million copies. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts.

Besides her great vocals, the other reason that Underwood has been so successful is because she has such a wholesome image. This image can be seen throughout many of her songs, which have both inspirational and uplifting themes and messages.
