Apple’s new iPad is a hot commodity. Pre-orders went on sale this morning at 8:30am EST and just a few hours later over 50,000 of them have already been ordered by consumers.

While no hard sales numbers exists, the data is based on order numbers over the course of a few hours. Of course Apple sells other items so it’s hard to gauge how many orders the company made were for the iPad.

The new Ipad is set to hit store shelves on April 3. The gadget starts at $499.
