Congrats to the folks over at twitter. The social site just hit its 10 billionth tweet today, that according to its tweet ids.

Just five months ago twitter was around 5 billion tweets so the service has doubled in less than half a year. That’s some pretty rapid growth, though I wonder how many of those tweets are automated spam type messages we see a lot of.

Since crossing the 10 billion mark, twitter has already add about 500,000 new tweets as it speeds its way toward 20 billion and beyond.
