Well, the Summer movie season is approaching the half-way mark, and a few more movies have caught my eye and beckoned me to the theater. After a brief hiccup, the entertainment goodness is back on track.
The Love Guru
Two words: horrible. And I mean that sincerely. Mike Myers is an incredibly funny and talented individual. Why he would put out such a piece of tripe as this movie is beyond me. And Sir Ben Kingsley… come on! Why on earth would he willingly stoop to a movie where his character is a constant source of dick, fart, and masturbation jokes? Simply mind-boggling. Myers must have some incriminating photos or something.
In any case, I have heard it said that if you like the Austin Powers movies that you’ll like The Love Guru, but I have to disagree. As someone who loved the Austin Powers movies, I can say I really disliked this movie. The only entertainment I got out of it was laughing at how the horrible jokes were actually physicially torturing my girlfriend.
Hancock
Now here we go. Not Will Smith’s best work ever, and not the best movie he’s ever been in. But, man, did I enjoy this movie. Even in spite of my girlfriends annoying knack of figuring out the entire plot, surprises and all, in the first five minutes of a movie, I still really enjoyed this flick.
Be warned, it’s not what you’ll think it’ll be from the previews. This movie isn’t all gaffs and guffaws at the expense of a wastoid superhero. No, this movie has meaning, plot, story, and a moral. Sort of. It’s still a romping good time.
This is a must-see movie for anyone who likes Summer Action flicks. At least Netflix it.
WALL-E
Well, many thought that even Pixar couldn’t make a robot endearing. But they did. WALL-E is a warm and tender movie full of heart and delight. Definitely a must-see, must-own, movie.
One word of caution. Since the majority of the movie is sight gags and non-verbal communications, some kids might not get it without a little explanation from the parents. So if you’re planning on taking your young’un to see this movie, maybe go see it first without the kids, get your enjoyment, and then take the kids and be ready for their barrage of questions. Just make sure they use their whisper voices to avoid upsetting the other patrons.
In short, go see this movie.
Next on my list: Wanted, and The Dark Knight. I’m doing some traveling this weekend, so maybe I’ll get a chance to see them.

I haven’t yet seen any of these movies. Don’t plan on watching Love Guru at all after reading your reviews but wasn’t planning on seeing it before reading it either. I just saw the Dark Knight yesterday. Now that was an awesome movie. At the time Iron Man came out I felt like that was the best movie of the summer so far — and indeed it was compared to any other movie I had seen or heard of there were other good movies but Iron Man was really incredible. It was better than the new Indiana Jones movie –and the original Indiana Jones trilogy was great — Iron Man was even better than the new INCREDIBLE HULK movie which I also saw.
However, the Dark Knight outdid even Iron Man. In my opinion The Dark Knight and IRON MAN are the top 2 major action movies of the summer. Wall-E looks good — maybe I’ll see it next. Will be looking forward to your next review covering Wanted and The Dark Knight.
I still remember when I saw Batman Begins in theaters I had gone with a friend who visiting. This time I went on my own to see The Dark Knight.
