Summer Movies Continue: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade of the Raiders of the Kingdom of the Temple of the Doomed Crystal Skull Ark |

The 4th installment of the Indiana Jones series has arrived, and the thralls rejoice! Is it all it’s been hyped up to be? Of course not. These days, movies that large are never able to live up to the hype. If there’s one thing we’ve all learned from a Grecian urn, it’s that the human mind can always conjur ideas that far surpass what human hands can actually produce. And that is sad. But then, no movie can be all things to all people. From the trailers, we can see that Indy is back… and he’s old. … Posted by Michael Swanberg @ 11:52 am in Movies | 6 Comments »

Good Ideas! |
|
May 15th, 2008

We all have good ideas. Why are so few of these ever brought to light? So, every now and then, an idea pops into my head. Occasionally, they’re good ideas. You know, ideas where you scratch your head and go, “hey, I’m not that smart, so if I thought of it, why hasn’t anyone else?” Here’s an example. You may recall I wrote an article about the iPod interface in my Acura and how horrible it is. It got me thinking. There is a fair bit of standardization in car stereos… size, for instance. There … | |

Summer Movies: Iron Man |
|
May 15th, 2008

I saw “Iron Man” over the weekend and here’s what I thought. The Summer movie season is beginning and the first of the potential blockbusters I saw was “Iron Man.” Yet another in a long line of “borrowed” IP remade into a shameless attempt at scoring some fast cash. But it’s really good! Honestly. I really liked this movie. I admit, I never read the Iron Man comics when I was younger. I was more of a Superman kind of kid. But I was at least familiar with Iron Man. However, since I am not an expert, … Posted by Michael Swanberg @ 9:19 am in Movies | 9 Comments »

Go See “Speed Racer,” Go! |

May 15th, 2008

The Summer movie season has begun in earnest. I saw “Speed Racer” last night and here is what I thought. Remakes are so risky. Especially in the common vein these days of remaking comic books or cartoons. In remaking them, you have to make a huge decision: do I make it like the original, or do I try to make a “realistic” movie based on the original? Either way, you’ll probably tick off half your potential audience. “Speed Racer” both succeeds and fails all at once. Okay, so let’s set the scene. I am rapidly approaching … Posted by Michael Swanberg @ 8:29 am in Movies | No Comments »

Irresponsible Philosophy! |

Can Pascal’s Wager be applied to the Global Climate Change debate? There’s a guy, apparently a science teacher, who has a series of videos out on the web where he tries to simplify the debate about Global Warming to a very rudimentary decision. Essentially, he purports, if we do nothing, then the possibility of global catastrophe exists. However, if we start immediate and widespread change against CO2 emissions, then the worst thing that could happen (complete economic ruin) isn’t that bad. Search YouTube for “manpollo” and you’ll see a list of this guy’s (I have no idea what his name … Posted by Michael Swanberg @ 1:03 pm in Opinion | 2 Comments »

Namecheap Coupon Codes |
|
May 1st, 2008
|
|
If you have read some of my prior posts you know I’m a big fan of registering your domains at Namecheap. Godaddy may have a lot TV presence (with Danica Patrick and Amanda Beard as their pitch women) but they also have a lot of garbage you have to wade through to finally checkout on their site, and Network Solutions, well don’t get me started. The place for my domains is Namecheap, and each month they offer a special coupon code for new domain registrations. And the May coupon code is MAYFLOWERS, which gets you nearly a buck off … Posted by Sunil Setty @ 11:21 am in Domain Registration | No Comments »
