Flying to India for the Holidays

If you are like me and are planning a trip to India this holiday season, and you’re having trouble finding cheap airline tickets or even flights with available seats here is something I did. If you have a lot of frequent flyer airline miles that you are wasting, use them.

I know getting a free economy ticket using miles this close to the holiday season is next to impossible. From what I have seen you need to book award travel in economy class months and months ahead of time when traveling abroad. And a trip to India costs roughly 80,000 miles in economy if you are lucky enough to get a seat.

However, you may still be able to get seats using miles up in business class or even in first class should your travel dates be flexible. That’s what I did.

An award seat on business class to India on some airlinesĀ  is 120,000 miles, just 40,000 more than economy. (Check American Airlines, Delta, United, etc for exact rates) Plus, you get to fly business class on what is for most people a lengthy journey to India/Asia. Of course this only applies to people with lots and lots of unused miles that they can burn.

So if do have expendable airline miles that you can’t seem to put to use in economy, be sure to inquire about business class or even first class award travel, you’ll be surprised at how many seats might actually be available and how much better you will enjoy the journey.
