John Mayer Biography

On October 16, 1977 John Mayer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. Since then he has gone on to become a Blues-rock, Electric Blues, Acoustic rock, Soul rock and Blue-eyed soul singer and songwriter. Not only does he play the keyboard and guitar, he also is a vocalist. John Mayer also works as a columnist.

Throughout his childhood, John Mayer listened to pop music. In fact, on an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, he said that he had played the clarinet for a while in middle school. While this was only a minor success. However, after he watched Michael J. Fox play Marty McFly and have a guitar performance in Back To The Future, John Mayer became fascinated with the instrument. So, at 13-years-old his father rented a guitar for him. Right after receiving a guitar he also received a Stevie Ray Vaughan cassette. Thus began his intense love of the blues. Unfortunately, his parents had some reservations whenever John Mayer became consumed with playing the guitar. Nevertheless, after just two years of practicing, he began to play guitar at blues bars and other local venues while still in high school. At this time he also played acoustic rock and pop. Besides playing guitar as a soloist, he also played in a band that was called Villanova Junction. After high school, John Mayer went on to attend Berklee College of Music.

In 1998 John Mayer moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Here is where he refined his skills as a guitarist and gained a following. His first two studio albums (Room for Squares and Heavier Things) did well commercially. In fact, they achieved multi-platinum status. He has also won a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance Grammy in 2003 then in 2007 he won the Best Pop Vocal Album.
